Akshara Nidhi Literary Magazine is a composition of prose,
poetry, and artwork by the students of Isha Vidhya schools in
Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. It strives to showcase the
hard work and talent of these students through the most
expressive ways!
Students, teachers, and volunteers from all Isha Vidhya
schools send in their work to be published. Their original
masterpieces are presented in this magazine, which boasts
of twenty pieces every quarter. Join us as we share the students’
imagination and thoughts with the rest of the world!
Shares Lahari, the editor of the magazine, who is an Isha
Vidhya volunteer:
“I was very honored and grateful to have been given the opportunity
to visit the Isha Vidhya schools in Cuddalore and Villupuram in
July 2015. I had also visited the school in Aragonda in July 2014.
Immediately upon arriving, I was greeted and received warmly by
the staff and faculty at the schools. They enthusiastically showed
me around the schools, explaining the multiple unique opportunities
the schools provide for the students. Each and every one of the
students were wide-eyed and curious about everything, from the
blocks in their math labs to the circuits in their science labs. I was
astonished to see the ease with which the students were able to
grasp difficult concepts and ask inquisitive questions at a young age.
It is truly wonderful to see Isha Vidhya providing such advanced
schooling for the students, tapping into their enormous potential.
When I showed the students how to protect themselves with
self-defense with martial arts, they, especially the girls, quickly
learned the moves, building their confidence in their ability to
protect themselves from danger. While at Cuddalore and Villupuram
I was also able to document part of my visit with a video on the
midday meal program at Isha Vidhya schools that provides a
nutritional meal for the children every day. I left the schools knowing
that the students here are just as aspiring and intelligent as any
other student around the world.
I was also able to introduce the Akshara Nidhi Literary Magazine,
which is a venture I have started to display the literary talents of
Isha Vidhya students, teachers, and volunteers through stories,
poetry, art, and photography. During my visit, I saw many walls
filled with beautiful artwork by the students, which showed me
that the magazine would be successful in allowing Isha Vidhya
students to reach out to a larger audience. Every work of prose
and art that I have seen has been made with a lot of thought and
effort. My hope is to be able to encourage the creativity in the
students and to help them think about life in different ways.
Of course, none of this would have been possible without the help
of Sudha, who has worked very hard to gather the work from Isha
Vidhya schools and send it to me. I am looking forward to compiling
many more magazines to show off the amazing talent of Isha
Vidhya students!"
