Dear Patrons,
Isha Vidhya has introduced “Profession with Passion” talks
for Isha Vidhya students! The students are introduced to
various career paths by professionals in those work areas.
The presentors can take around an hour for a session at any
of the 8 Isha Vidhya schools. This program is for senior
students who are near completion of their school studies and
pursue their higher education (or) career of their choice.
The presentors share information on their own career paths,
possibilities, followed by an informative Q&A session!
The first such presentation was conducted by Priya Vaidyanadhan
who spoke about 'Choosing a career in medicine'. Several senior
students, who are currently evaluating their career choices,
participated in the session.
A lot of students stayed back to have a conversation with Dr. Priya,
and thanked her for the time. They asked pointed questions like
“If 85% of seats are for students from Tamil Nadu, then what are the
marks that a student needs to get in order to get into medicine?”
Dr. Priya, a specialist in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care shared with us:
“I am used to presenting in conferences to professionals in the field
of medicine and post-graduate students in medicine. This is my first
time talking with school students. It was an unique experience and
challenging too as the questions were not predictable. Students were
extremely receptive to the topic and understood what was conveyed.
I had no one to tell me about any academic or professional path in my
school days. I feel that this way I can help the rural children to ease
into college and eventually a career in medicine.”
What a nice way to guide the rural children in their careers! We are
also amazed by the curiosity of the participating children!
If you are a professional, who would like to conduct a session about
your career/profession with the children, please feel free to email
your interest to global.giving@ishavidhya.org
Note that Isha Vidhya schools are present in Coimbatore, Erode, Salem,
Dharmapuri, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Tuticorin and Nagercoil areas
in Tamilnadu state of India.
