Integrating life skills training is part of education at
Isha Vidhya. Students are trained on handlng day
to day situations along with the tools that are required
to do so.
Fire extinguishing is an important aspect that every
person should know. Cuddalore school conducted a
training session for this, and also explained the situations
in which this should be done and the situations it should
not be done.
Employees of Suriya Fire Service visited for annual
refilling of fire extinguishers, and conducted training for
the students and the staff. After the training, the students
felt well trained to handle the fire extinguisher equipment.
Yogesh of 8th grade, A section shares :
"The awareness program of putting out fire was clearly explained
in three methods.
Method A: First putting off fire on cotton, textile etc. can be
extinguished by clip method. We were astonished when this
method was demonstrated.
Method B: Putting off fire in a car, bus, short circuit leakage etc.
This can be put off by a cylinder containing carbon-di-oxide,
where a knob is pressed to control the flames.
Method C: Involves fire accident involving highly flammable
liquid like kerosene, petrol, LPG , CNG petrol bunks. A
cylinder containing dry fine powder is opened. The clip on
the cylinder is opened and turned with a spanner and the
cylinder is hit with a limited force which paves way for the
vapor in the cylinder to be released incessantly for eight
minute.
To end the awareness training proved to be an eye opener
thereby provoking the alertness of fire accidents and the
safety measures to be implemented. We learnt that one should
not panic in such a critical situation but instead act according
to what is needed to be done."
