When the syllabus needed to be taught hands-on:
Cuddalore school's 8th standard syllabus had a requirement
to teach arts and crafts hands-on. Our arts and crafts teacher
Mrs. Jayasudha is very resourceful, but she always feels that
children's thought should be kindled in coming up with ideas
and solutions when there's a need or a question.
And the children live up to the expectation!:
The students of Mrs. Jayasudha didn't let her down. As soon
as the teacher asked the students to suggest a project for
hands-on implementation for the arts and crafts syllabus, they
came up with the suggestion to prepare crafty decoration lamps
that can be used for the upcoming Indian festival Deepavali !
How timely, innovative and cost-saving it is, to prepare hand-made
lamps for the festival! Many of you would already know about the
Deepavali festival, but, if you don't, here's a nice article at
Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diwali. Also, check out
these awesome pictures at that link!
Teacher Jayasudha shares her excitement in her own words! :
"Being in the midst of children always is a pleasurable experience for
me specially when they are eager to learn a new thing from me. The
syllabus for 8th grade is to make a thing using paper. Instead of myself
choosing the thing, I asked the students to suggest a thing to be made
using paper. Pat came the reply paper lamp to herald the arrival of
Deepawali a festival of lights. I was delighted at their timely suggestion
and i just guided them and the result was an array of lamps in the class.
I understood that nothing is impossible if there is dedication and
involvement!"
The students of Isha Vidhya are very fortunate to have Arts & Crafts
curriculum as part of their learning. Arts & Crafts have special
emphasis at Isha Vidhya schools also to inspire the rural students
about artistic handworks and crafts!
