International Computer Driver’s License
A few years ago, International Computer Driver’s License (ICDL) signed an agreement with the Government of Rwanda to begin the certification of Rwandan citizens in a range of IT skills. The goal was to help employers recruit talent while giving skilled employees an easy way to prove their abilities. MindLeaps decided to take on the challenge of preparing some of our top youth to become certified in IT skills too!
Certifying Street Children in IT
This month, six of our top IT students will take their exams to receive their ICDL certification. These teenagers have been working with us for over one year to prepare, and they have come so far ! They never graduated from primary school and had no understanding of English language, but now they are performing tasks in MS Word, Excel and online after hours and hours of work in our lab. If these youth succeed on their exams, they will be the first street youth in Rwanda to hold these certifications and they already have the chance to work at Rwanda’s Business Development Center.
What Happens Now ?
We currently have 60+ students in our IT program every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at our center in Kigali, Rwanda. With the support that we receive from people like you, we are able to sustain this program so these youth too will have the intensive coaching they need to become ICDL certified. This is truly a path out of poverty for some of these teenagers – and you are making it possible !
Thank you for giving access to computer training to youth in Rwanda!
Please consider sharing this report on your social media so that we can tell the world about the success of these youth.
