Summary
Janani Home for Girls aims to support and transform the lives of underprivileged young girls by providing their needs that range from food, shelter to an excellent all-rounded education.
Challenge
In many parts of India, the birth of a girl child is not welcomed. Right from her arrival, she faces discrimination, humiliation, and oppression at every stage of life. When it comes to healthcare, education and growth opportunities, she is neglected because of her gender. Some manage to survive and foster new paths to follow. Most, however, surrender hopelessly to the sad fate assigned to them. In a country rife with gender inequalities and an underlying nature of patriarchy, girl children often find themselves at the short end of the stick. Discrimination against girls is rampant and due to the fear of abuse and exploitation, they are kept at home and not sent to school. Child marriage is yet another glaring issue due to which girls are forced to give up going to school at an early age.
Solution
Janani home, which is authorized by the Government of Puducherry, provides proper shelter, food and structured day for the young girls living there. We make their stay comfortable, provide clean and neat environment. Opportunities to get tuitions, extra-curricular activities such as dance and music, tailoring and embroidery, yoga are available. Guidance and Counseling, awareness generation program on child rights, health and hygiene are provided on a regular basis.
Long-Term Impact
The girls living at the Janani Home are living in an environment that will equip them with the tools to lead a self-reliant life. We remove the children from neglectful and abusive mindset and give them a chance to be surrounded by loving individuals. The nutritional, medical and educational care they receive will create a structured and safe life. The Janani Home also provides a safe place where they girls can be nurtured, as children, and become productive members of society, when they reach adulthood.
