Educate & Care for 100 Girls in Puducherry

On November 23^rd, heavy rain ravaged Puducherry and our neighborhood of Rainbow Nagar. Not only were the roads flooded up to above knee level, our Janani Home was overwhelmed with flood water causing all activities to come to a standstill. Our girls had to find sanctuary from the deluge by heading upstairs to the volunteer rooms. Luckily for us, the rooms were mostly empty. Unfortunately, this is not the first time the girls have had to endure this type of event this rainy season. Infact, the Janani Home experienced even worse flooding overnight on December 1st 2015. The water level was up to the belly button level.

According to reports, Puducherry has recorded a whopping 37cm of rainfall over the last 48 hours. With drains overwhelmed and Rainbow Nagar being located in a low-lying area, the waters flooded our streets and homes. Much of our items, which include but are not limited to furniture, electronics, clothes, shoes, school stationary and books suffered permanent damage.

We lifted our spirits overnight by watching movies, dancing, singing and playing games together. We cooked healthy foods and even shared some dessert we had been saving for a special occasion! Currently, the Janani home is sill submerged in water and much of our items are beyond salvaging. We have hired help to bail buckets of water out of the house. It's just the first step to making the house livable again.
