Hello friends of Prime Trust,
About a month ago, we had the most unique opportunity at the Janani Home. We had a volunteer - hailing from the United States of America, specialising in aviation science!
Diana taught all of us about the basics of aviation. We discussed so many interesting things! One of our first lessons was about the science of how an airplane stay afloat in the sky. Then, our lessons progressed to looking at complicated and interesting landing maps that explain how airplanes land. We talked about the many people who are involved in the taking off and the landing of a flight.
Our Janani home kids impressed all of us by asking complex questions! Below are some of the sort of questions the kids asked:
- How do flights avoid in-air collisions with other flights?
- How do flights know where to land when they are flying in the air?
- How do flights land in cities located in the mountains?
Diana answered these questions using physical science and by showing us maps of the world. We discussed travelling to other parts of the world, how flights figure out the shortest path to these countries and what it is like to work in air traffic control towers.
With the help of the staff, Diana organized a trip to the Pondicherry airport so we could all go look at flights. Though we didn't have an opportunity to enter the airport, the day ended up being a delight to the children regardless. Through Diana's enthusiasm and passion, we were all exposed to an area of science that few of us had heard about.
We will continue to "think about aviation and reach for the sky"!!
Thank you Diana for expanding out world!
