Educate & Care for 100 Girls in Puducherry

Summary

To help and transform the lives of underprivileged young girls living at our Home for abandoned girl children by providing food, accommodation, health care, education and formation.

Challenge

We come across many girls in Puducherry who are not provided resources they need to acquire a good education, live a safe life, and overcome the many obstacles that women in India have to face. Young women are discriminated and they are not given the same type of educational opportunities as their male counterparts. Additionally, many come from poor families that do not have the financial resources.

Solution

Janani home for girls provides proper shelter, food and structured day for the young girls living there. Their stay is comfortable, clean and supervised by several adults. They are given extra tuition to cope up with their school lessons. Extracurricular such as art, dancing and singing are provided. Janani Home also provides the girls with access to quality medical care. This consistence and active work being done at the Janani home is sure to leave lasting and positive impact on the girls who call this place home.

Long-Term Impact

The girls who are taken care under this environment will equip themselves with tools to lead a self-reliant life. We remove the children from neglectful and abusive homes and give them a chance to be surrounded by loving individuals. The nutritional, medical and educational care they receive will create a structured and safe life. The Janani home also provides a safe place where they girls can be nurtured, as children and become productive members of society, when they reach adulthood.

Update

As of now, we have 14 children who are given opportunity to have good education, food, health care and good accommodation. The home attracts local community to participate in the mission. With the support of Global Giving, we are able to provide additional support to the children such as a van, electronic power generator, furniture, CCTV and Audio system. We are admitting another 6 children in the month of June 2017.

Recent Programs/Events

On 18th January 2017, Mr. Rajesh, Program Coordinator and Miss. Alicia, an Intern from Germany conducted a program for the children on menstrual cycle, health and hygiene

On 10th February 2017, Mr. Rajesh made a program on gender equality and child rights

On 22nd March, a program on stress management and personality development were conducted.

Two children celebrated their birth days and some of our local benefactors were present.
