Palestinian families living in Jerusalem's Old City continue to face significant social and economic challenges that affect children’s access to safe and supportive early education. In lots of neighborhoods ongoing instability, financial hardship, and limited educational opportunities place additional pressure on families and negatively impact children’s emotional, cognitive, and social development. Young children growing up in these conditions remain especially vulnerable to the long-term effects of stress and uncertainty.
Through the Jerusalem Preschool Project, YEÇED continues to provide free preschool education and psychosocial support for children in a secure and nurturing learning environment. The project supports children’s early development through structured educational activities that encourage learning, creativity, and social interaction. At the same time, psychosocial support activities help children build emotional resilience and strengthen their sense of safety and belonging within their community.
The project also contributes to supporting Palestinian families’ connection to their neighborhoods and preserving community resilience in Jerusalem’s Old City. By ensuring access to quality early childhood education, the preschool helps create opportunities for children to grow and develop in a more stable environment while supporting families facing ongoing challenges. YEÇED remains committed to empowering children through education and contributing to a stronger and more hopeful future for the next generation.
