In January 2025, 61 new students began their training in tailoring and leather work. Your support through GlobalGiving is a major source of funding for this activity. In addition, the academic year began for 14 weaving students in Niamey and 10 weaving students in Kirubbe Keyna.
DIMA received funding from Pro Victimis in March to work with the Communaite des Handicapes Locomoteurs de la Commune Niamey II. DIMA will work with a group of 42 polio survivors to buy equipment, renovate two ateliers, and provide 9 months of training in tailoring and leather work.
With support from the Heritage Management Organization/Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, DIMA has been working with a South African fashion designer to develop products that incorporate weaving and are suitable for export. The first stage of the project was completed in March.
Purpose Earth provided funding to build a weaving and storage shed in the village of Lakatone in April. Also during April, DIMA promoted weaving at the 32nd annual Féte National de l’Artisanat held at the Village Artisanat de Niamey.
