Project Report: Upcycle Juba City – Trash from Waste to Wow
Location: Juba City, South Sudan
Implementing Partner: South Sudan Grassroots Initiative for Development (SSGID)
Transforming Trash into Opportunity
Juba City faces a growing waste management crisis, with heaps of uncollected trash affecting public health, polluting the environment, and diminishing the beauty of the city. The “Upcycle Juba City: Trash from Waste to Wow” project aims to turn this challenge into a solution converting waste into useful products, generating income for vulnerable youth and women, and restoring pride in the community’s shared spaces.
Activities and Progress
During this reporting quarter, SSGID has not yet secured funding for the project, but we have taken key preparatory steps. Using the Grounded Accountability Model (GAM) approach, we mobilized local communities and stakeholders, held meetings to identify the most pressing waste management challenges, and co-created potential solutions and impact indicators with residents. This groundwork ensures that when funding becomes available, the project will reflect community priorities and achieve lasting impact.
Call for Support
SSGID continues to appeal to well-wishers, individuals, and partners to support this innovative initiative. Every contribution will help turn Juba’s waste problem into a source of creativity, employment, and environmental sustainability transforming trash into something truly “wow.”
