We and our partners are making strides in getting the Quechua people of the Pastaza justice after 40 years of oil contamination, thanks to your help!
Your donations have helped to significantly strengthen and formalize the indigenous federation FEDIQUEP in their efforts to represent their communities. They are now revising their statues so that they can be legally signed into the public regsitry. This is an extremely important step to strenghthen their credibility and independence as an organization for the future.
Additionally, your donations have helped to provide the mobility and travel for FEDIQUEP leadership to attend important meetings. Without being able to make these long trips from their communities to Iquitos, these leaders would not be able to help stand up for their people's rights.
And finally, your donations are going towards legal fees with our partners at PDDI (Programa de Defensa de las Derechas indigenas) to ensure that their rights are defended and respected.
However, there is still much work to be done to ensure proper clean up and justice for the Quechua. In a few days a medical commission will enter the Pastaza region to take blood analysis. We will keep you updated on these happenings, and please follow us on our facebook page for daily updates.
In Solidarity,
Matthew Watherston and the Alianza Arkana Team
