Change a Girl's Life Through Microentrepreneurship

Mary's life was turned upside down when conflict forced her to flee Muyenge a small locality Fako Division in the southwest Region of Camerron, leaving behind her home and the modest livelihood she had painstakingly built. Suddenly displaced and without a steady income, Mary faced an uncertain future. Determined to find a safer environment for her family, she decided to relocate to Mudeka a small community in the Tiko subdivision, carrying little more than the hope of rebuilding her life. In Mudeka, Mary found refuge with a supportive relative who sheltered her and recognized her potential, providing her with a small amount of startup capital. With a renewed sense of purpose and a deep resolve to regain stability, Mary used this initial support to begin a small business selling smoked fish, eventually taking on crazy fish on credit. She started humbly but with big aspirations.

  Mary connected with the staff from Reach Out during a door-to-door identification program. Impressed by her determination, they provided her with crucial business training that covered topics such as savings, bookkeeping, and management skills. This training proved vital in helping her navigate the challenges of her new enterprise. Mary was awarded an initial grant of 57,200 FRS ($95.02)  to bolster her startup, and six months later, she received an additional capital boost of 114,000 FRSabout ($189.38), , allowing her to expand her business significantly.

  Today, Mary’s once-small venture has flourished, enabling her to provide for her family and ensure her children’s education—a dream that once felt unattainable. Her success story is not just about financial gain but also about reclaiming hope and security through hard work, community support, and resilience. Mary’s journey from loss to stability serves as a powerful reminder that with the right support, dedication, and courage, it’s possible to transform life’s challenges into opportunities for growth and a brighter future. “I have made my life in Mudeka. I don’t plan to leave Mudeka for Muyenge, thanks to the support, training, and monthly business coaching that gave me the push I needed. I believe there is still more to achieve.”
