Dear Friends,
Thank you for empowering us to pour our collective determination, inspiration, musical instruction and instruments into the lives of students and teachers, giving them hope, joy, and a chance to improve their quality of life and learning everyday.
We wanted to share a momentous turning point in our work in our own hometown of San Diego. After 22 years of finding outside funding sources to make a difference for children with music, we are excited to announce that the San Diego Unified School District realizes the value of what we do and is now underwriting our programs. You got us here. San Diego is GITC’s hub, and is a wonderful example of how, with your help, our programs are bringing the joy of musical learning to thousands of teachers and students in many cities and towns throughout the USA. Everything we are learning here and any new approach we pilot in the local schools leads to improvements in our programs everywhere!
This spring, thanks to you, we are providing 59 teaching artist residencies, both in person at 19 different school sites and online, as well as online professional development trainings for teachers and support staff in general education classrooms, for homebound, medically fragile students, and for students who have been removed from an unsafe home environment and need transitional support. This is unprecedented. We could not have done it without your ongoing generosity.
We are also going to bring a second summer of learning and fun through GITC’s intimate Summer Strummers Clubs, each holding 18-24 students, helping about 350 children total in 13 different school sites throughout the city of San Diego. These clubs lead to so much resilience, laughter, and fabulous student creativity!
We have been able to accomplish all this and so much more in 2022 with your support. Thank you for standing by our mission, supporting our efforts, and encouraging us to keep going. It isn’t easy by any means, and your gifts speak volumes.
With your support, our project to infuse GITC classrooms with music has been in action since 2015. Now we are going to turn our attention to working in more remote, rural school districts, bringing the music to places where children have very little alternative learning opportunities. Stay tuned!
We deeply appreciate your generosity and, with your ongoing participation, we can continue to make a huge impact for kids and teachers in 2022. We thank you for your blessings and gifts to do this work.
With deepest appreciation for your commitment and care,
Gail
