Hello, Friends!
All of us at GITC feel truly blessed at this time to be able to share a look inside two special GITC classrooms with you at this time.
Rather than trying to describe what you have made possible, now you can see it for yourself thanks to reporters from two major television stations, CBS and Fox News! The first link below takes you inside a Title 1 third grade classroom led by teacher Ms. Rachel P. She and her students are learning through songwriting for language arts, math, and much more this spring. GITC teaching artist Dan D. is featured, leading students in strumming and singing. The kids are wonderful young musicians. See for yourself that joyful learning your support is inspiring each day.
The second video features a kindergarten classroom led by teacher Mrs. Desirée R. who has been leading music in her work with children since she came to GITC in 2017. CBS Reporter Jeff Z. shows how these very young children are developing language skills, vocabulary, self-control, and confidence as well as expressing their hopes for our world. These little students are already surprisingly capable, focused, calm. Music is supporting their teacher to keep them fully engaged in learning for long periods of time and the results are evident in this look inside her Title 1 classroom.
The love you have shown this project has been helping us build pathways for service in three big school districts, while opening the work up to teachers learning virtually with us from 39 states. Each year, your contributions has made it possible to grow access and outreach so more teachers can learn with GITC for free, then request a classroom music residency. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
The plan this summer is to hold in-person intensives in multiple locations while maintaining our virtual classes so teachers in any part of the nation can learn to sing, strum, teach, lead, and compose songs for learning in time for school to resume for a new year. If you'd care to donate at this time, your gift will go toward granting free residencies in school districts that are new to us! Please help us spread the music farther so more children can be supported by the energy, focus, and upliftment that learning to make music with others provides. Your charity is changing lives with us, and we are so very grateful.
Hoping you'll enjoy the videos, and reach out with your feeling, thoughts, and suggestions! You can always reach us at info@guitarsintheclassroom.org.
We all wish you the best and send our gratitude your way,
Jess
