Summary - As a result of the ongoing famine brought about by several factors key among which are: (a) unending ethnic war; (b) influx of Sudan refugees to Aweil State which hosts most of the Sudanese Refugees who continue to cross from the atrocious war in Khartoum and other parts of Sudan in the north, (c) climate change which is making farming in general and food production in particular difficult; (d) very poor and near non-existent public extension services; (e) rampant corruption of public resources; there is practically no production of food among the local population. The little food produced does not meet even basic subsistence needs.
The result is that South Sudan is a net food importer by over 99%, from Uganda and other East African Countries and through humanitarian relief agencies. The priority is to save the lives of internally displaced persons and refugees. This hurts the educational lot as it is not treated as a priority. SSGID planned to provide 1,000 vulnerable school girls with daily meals to keep them in school, in a timely. If it comes on time, your donation will have and will give food vouchers to 1,000 vulnerable girls to keep them learning. By providing food vouchers, this project would have started to address hunger, allowing 1,000 girls to stay in school, in Aweil East County of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State of South Sudan for 90 days; and focus on their education during a critical food crisis. This would not only empower the girls with knowledge but also increase their chances of a brighter future. As a national charity organization, we are on the frontline of addressing the education needs and rights of girls through much-needed school meals. We also counsel the girls and provide them with period health towels and soap. In the last quarter, we sought to address the needs of 1,000 vulnerable girls through one meal a day. How far has SSGID gone towards implementing this project?
