A Message of Gratitude to Our Donors
On behalf of the entire One Village team, we want to begin this report with a heartfelt thank-you. Your generosity is not a footnote to this work, it is the foundation of it. In Sierra Leone, where poverty, crisis, and circumstance can quietly pull children away from the families who love them, your support has made it possible for families to stay together, grow stronger, and look toward the future with hope. We are deeply grateful for your trust in One Village and for standing alongside these families through every step of this journey.
About the One Village Program
The Keeping Families Together Through One Village program is built on a core conviction: that children thrive best within the love and stability of their own families and communities. Rather than responding to family separation after the fact, One Village works to prevent it from happening in the first place. Operating in Freetown and the surrounding areas of Sierra Leone, the program takes a community-based approach, strengthening families where they already live, reducing the pressures that lead to separation, and ensuring that children never have to lose their homes in order to receive care. This model reduces reliance on institutional care and instead builds sustainable, dignified, community-rooted solutions that honor the bonds families already share. It is always our goal to reunify children to their birth families or communities when they enter our home.
Current Update: 23 Children Reunified and Supported
Today, One Village is actively supporting 23 children who have been reunified with their families through the program. In order to assure that the transition home is stable, lasting, and nurturing for both child and family, The Raining Season continues contact and support for each child. This support takes meaningful, practical forms: monthly food assistance helps families meet their most basic needs so that hunger never becomes a reason for a child to leave home again. At the same time, families receive ongoing guidance from a dedicated local coordinator who follows up regularly to confirm that children remain in school, that families remain supported, and that no family is quietly falling through the cracks.
Education at the Heart of It
One Village supports children across every stage of education, from primary school all the way through university ensuring that a family's financial hardship does not determine the limit of a child's future. School fees, uniforms, and school supplies are provided so that practical barriers never become reasons for a child to drop out. When a child can walk through the school gate with what they need, they can focus on learning. When they can stay in school year after year, they build the knowledge, confidence, and opportunities that can carry them and eventually their own families toward lasting change.
Long-Term Impact
The impact of this program reaches far beyond the 23 children currently in its care. When a family is strengthened, the entire household becomes more resilient and better equipped to weather future hardships without breaking apart. When a child grows up at home, nurtured and educated, cycles of poverty that have stretched across generations begin to weaken and break. One Village is building exactly that: a future where family separation is the exception, not the norm.
Closing: You Make This Possible
These 23 children are home because of you. The meals on their tables, the school fees paid, the follow-up calls made, the families that stayed together. All of it flows from the commitment of donors like you who chose to believe that something better is possible in Sierra Leone. We invite you to continue walking this road with us, and to share this project with others who may want to join. Every contribution, large or small helps ensure that more children will be able to return home or never have to leave home to find a future worth living.
With gratitude and hope,
Lori and the One Village Team
