Dear Donors
Karitas Relief Mission continues to work with vulnerable village families to reduce the risk of malaria and promote practical ways of preventing malaria infections in the community.
Malaria remains a serious concern for families, particularly children, pregnant women, and other vulnerable community members. The project focuses on prevention, awareness, and encouraging families to take protective measures against mosquito bites.
2. Activities Being Carried Out
Community activities continue to focus on malaria prevention and education. Families are being encouraged to:
- Sleep under insecticide-treated mosquito nets every night.
- Ensure children are properly protected from mosquito bites.
- Keep sleeping areas clean and properly arranged.
- Reduce mosquito breeding areas around homes.
- Remove stagnant water where mosquitoes can breed.
- Seek medical attention quickly when malaria symptoms appear.
- Follow health workers' advice concerning malaria prevention and treatment.
Community members are also being reminded that early action is important when someone develops symptoms such as fever, chills, headache, weakness, or other signs associated with malaria.
3. Community Awareness
The project continues to strengthen awareness among village families about malaria prevention.
Families are learning that malaria prevention requires consistent action, particularly during periods when mosquito populations increase. Community members are encouraged to work together to keep their surroundings clean and reduce places where mosquitoes can breed.
The project also encourages families to make proper use of mosquito nets rather than keeping them unused or using them for other purposes.
4. Progress and Results
The project is helping families increase their knowledge of malaria prevention and understand the importance of protecting themselves from mosquito bites.
Community awareness is improving, and families are being encouraged to take greater responsibility for keeping their homes and surroundings safer.
The project is also helping reinforce the importance of seeking medical attention promptly when malaria is suspected, especially for children and other vulnerable people.
5. Challenges
Some families continue to face challenges accessing adequate malaria-prevention materials, particularly mosquito nets.
Poverty also makes it difficult for some households to maintain effective prevention measures. In addition, stagnant water and other mosquito breeding areas can remain a challenge in some communities.
6. Next Steps
Karitas Relief Mission will continue to:
- Conduct malaria-prevention awareness activities.
- Encourage families to sleep under mosquito nets consistently.
- Promote environmental cleanliness around homes.
- Encourage early testing and treatment when malaria is suspected.
- Identify households that remain particularly vulnerable.
- Mobilize additional support for mosquito nets and other malaria-prevention activities.
7. Conclusion
The Keeping Village Families Safe from Malaria project continues to support communities through malaria-prevention education and practical awareness.
By helping families understand how malaria spreads and how to reduce exposure to mosquitoes, the project is contributing to healthier and safer communities. Continued support will help Karitas Relief Mission reach more vulnerable households and strengthen malaria-prevention activities at the village level.
