Keeping Village Families Safe from Malaria

By Kajubi Jimmy | Project Leader

Dear Donors

1. Project Overview

Our project, Keeping Village Families Safe from Malaria, continues to address the growing threat of malaria among vulnerable families in our communities. Malaria remains a serious health challenge, particularly for young children, pregnant women and families who cannot afford adequate protection and treatment.

Through this initiative, we aim to distribute mosquito nets, raise awareness about malaria prevention and encourage families to seek early medical attention whenever symptoms appear.

2. Current Situation in the Communities

During our recent community engagements, we observed that many families are still struggling to protect themselves against mosquito bites. Some households lack sufficient mosquito nets, leaving children and mothers particularly vulnerable during the night.

We also received worrying reports of malaria cases among young children. Sadly, we recently lost a two-month-old baby to malaria. This heartbreaking loss has reminded us how dangerous malaria can be, especially for infants, and how urgently our communities need preventive support.

The situation has caused concern among parents, community leaders and our project team. Families are increasingly requesting mosquito nets because they understand the importance of protecting their children.

3. Activities and Progress

We have continued engaging community members and local leaders to understand the most urgent needs. Our activities include:

- Identifying vulnerable households that lack mosquito nets.

- Meeting families to discuss malaria prevention.

- Educating parents on the importance of sleeping under treated mosquito nets.

- Encouraging early testing and treatment at health facilities.

- Assessing the increasing demand for mosquito nets.

Our discussions have revealed that the number of families requesting assistance is higher than initially anticipated.

4. Challenges

The greatest challenge remains inadequate funding to provide mosquito nets to all the families in need. The increasing demand has also affected our initial budget projections.

Many vulnerable households cannot afford to purchase treated mosquito nets, leaving their children exposed to malaria.

5. Next Steps

We plan to continue mobilising resources, procure additional treated mosquito nets and prioritise households with young children, pregnant women and other vulnerable members.

We also intend to strengthen community education and work with local health workers to encourage early malaria diagnosis and treatment.

6. Appeal to Our Donors

We sincerely appreciate everyone supporting this initiative. However, the recent loss of a two-month-old baby has strengthened our determination to reach more families before they experience similar suffering.

We appeal for additional support to help us provide mosquito nets and protect vulnerable children and families.

A mosquito net may look like a simple item, but for a vulnerable child, it can mean protection, hope and a chance to live. Together, we can prevent unnecessary suffering and save lives.
