By Martin Fenton | Treasurer, Karen Fenton Ovarian Cancer Fund
Since Karen Fenton passd away in April 2017 from Ovarian Cancer we have been fundraising to raise awareness and to help others who may be ill with this terrible disease. Recetntly we relaunched the Karen Fenton Memorial Run which unfortunately could not proceed in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid. We hosted over 250 runners and walkers from the athletics clubs around Cork and also from Ballinora community The event was a great sucecss notwithstanding smaller then back in 2019. We expect that the event will be back again next year bigger then ever. With this annual event and your support we will continue our fundraising efforts for cancer services.
So far we have raised over €140,000 and we donated €80,000 to CUH to purchase an “Ion Torrent Genexus Integrated Sequencer” in Cork. The machine has now been commissioned and it already starting to leave a lasting legacy to cancer patients in the Cork and wider Munster region. We expect to continue to provide further financial support to CUH and to other support services in the Cork region into the future. This will help to leave a lasting legacy for Karen who spent much of the final 2 months of her life at CUH.
Thanks to everyone for your continuing support.
