Project Report | Oct 19, 2016
Skills to prevent harm from others

By Anne Babb | General Secretary IBC

The project is of great interest by the external public, the community in general, and the net of services that assist dependents and families, because it fulfills an existing gap, which is the preventing assistance to children affected by the parents’ drug dependence. It is also conspicuously known that children with learning and behavior difficulties in the school environment, many times come from dysfunctional families, where there are higher indices of drug abuse and dependence. The assistance in support groups to children affected by the parents’ dependence complements the net of services of Blue Cross in Brazil, that has a net of support groups for adults and the services of therapeutic communities.

Even being part of the family and experiencing this condition together with the family, the child may  not understand the situation in which the family is, due to the chemical dependence developed by one or more family members. Children of PASDs may show predisposition to the use of drugs. Although there is some debate as to whether dependence is passed on genetically yet, however, social factors resulting from living together and even the imitation can influence/teach the child to use drugs.

[...] some authors suggest that children of a chemical dependent parent show greater chance to develop clinical history of chemical dependence in the future and, many times, inconspicuous behavioral and cognitive alterations can be glimpsed in the childhood. BALTIERI, Danilo.

We want to prevent children from substance abuse and we thank you for your continued support within this battle. Our services provide the children the first step to safety, let's keep working for a world where everybody can choose a life free from addiction!
