Dear Esteemed Donor, Namaste!
We’re proud to work with RSKS India, empowering marginalized communities with transparency and impact. Here’s one inspiring story of change we’re thrilled to share with you.
A Story of BASANTI.........!!
My name is Basanti (Name Changed), and I am 28 years old. I live with my family in a slum near a village. Life here is difficult, especially during the rainy season when the risk of falling sick increases. The slum is crowded, with poor drainage and stagnant water everywhere, which becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Every year, when the rains come, people in our slum get sick from mosquito bites. Malaria and dengue are common, and I’ve seen many neighbors, including children, suffer because of it. I live with my husband and our two children in a small house made of tin and plastic sheets. We don’t have much, but we try to make the best of what we have. My husband works as a laborer, and I do some domestic work in nearby houses to help support our family. We barely earn enough to meet our daily needs, so when the rainy season comes, we worry about falling sick because we can’t afford the medical bills.
Then one day, something unexpected happened. Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan (RSKS India) organized a Mosquito Net Distribution & Awareness program in our slum. When I heard about it, I felt a sense of relief wash over me. Finally, someone was doing something to help us protect ourselves from the mosquitoes that had been tormenting us for so long. The day of the program, I joined the other women from the slum as we gathered in a small open space where the RSKS team had set up. They didn’t just give us mosquito nets; they also took the time to explain how we could protect ourselves from mosquito-borne diseases. They talked about the importance of keeping our surroundings clean, removing stagnant water, and using the mosquito nets properly.
When they handed me the mosquito net, I felt like I was holding something precious. That night, for the first time in a long time, we slept without worrying about mosquitoes. I tucked the children under the net and felt a wave of peace as I watched them sleep. It was a simple thing, but it made a huge difference in our lives. The mosquito net has become an essential part of our home. Every night, we use it to protect ourselves, and it has brought us immense relief. I no longer wake up in the middle of the night, worrying about my children getting bitten by mosquitoes. We’ve all been healthier this season, and I’m so thankful for that. I’m also grateful for the awareness that RSKS India provided. Now, we’re more conscious about keeping our surroundings clean and ensuring that there’s no stagnant water near our home. I share what I learned with my neighbors, encouraging them to take the same precautions. It feels good to know that we can do something to protect ourselves and our community.
