My name is Nandlal and I am 55 years old. I do live in the slums of Ghati. In our slum 30 families live. I am the oldest one living in this slum. There are many factories nearby our slum and the waste materials from these factories gets collected in the slum area. Everyday someone is sick due to this garbage. Mosquito bite is a very common thing here. Previous year 9 people from our slum were found to have malaria and dengue.
RSKS INDIA pointed us out as the mosquito affected area. RSKS started its awareness program in our area but in starting, nobody cared for this program and nothing new was seen. After this RSKS team members came to meet me and told the situation to me. I called every person of our slum and told them about everything which the RSKS team members told me and then everybody started understanding. From time to time, the RSKS members visit our slum area. They do this to make us aware about cleaning our environment as well as help us in cleaning our surroundings. One day they also sprayed DDT in our area and after that not a single mosquito was seen.
I am very happy to say that this year no one fell sick because of dengue and malaria. The main reason behind this is the spraying of DDT in 3 stages, by RSKS INDIA in our surroundings and the continuous cleanliness work done by the slum people. Now the children do play wherever they want to without fearing mosquito bite. We all also took oath to make our slum clean and beautiful.
