When the floods come, Children lose Everything-

Dear Donors,

As the rainy season approaches in Freetown, we want to update you on how we are preparing to protect children in Kroobay, Susan's Bay, Mabella, Kolleh Town, and Crab Town.

PROJECT UPDATE:FLOOD PREPAREDNESS FOR CHILDREN

Every year, floods destroy homes, wash away school materials, and force children out of class for weeks. For children living in slum communities, one flood can mean losing everything  books, uniforms, shelter, and safety.

WHAT WE HAVE DONE

1. RiskMapping: Identified 500 household and 2,500 children most at risk of flooding.

2. Community Sensitization:; Held meetings with parents and School Management Committees on flood safety and evacuation routes.

3. Partnerships: Working with local leaders to identify safe spaces that can serve as temporary learning centers during floods.

THE URGENT NEED

When floods come, children lose everything. They lose their books, clothes, and sometimes their homes. Without support, many will drop out of school.

WHAT IS NEEDED

With you support, we plan to: 

1. Distribute Emergency School kits: Books, exercise books, uniforms, and shoes to replace what is lost.

2. Provide Hygiene Supplies: Soap, bucket, and water purification tablets to prevent diseases after floods.

3. Support Temporary Learning: Set up sefe spaces so children can continue learning even when schools are closed.

THE IMPACT

Your donation helps us respond quickly when disaster strikes. It means a child can go back to school within days instead of months. It means dignity, safety, and hope during the hardest time of year.
