As the festivals fill our hearts with joyful and warmth, I want to share something truly special with you. This festival season, Apne Aap celebrates the incredible stories of 50 young brave lives—40 brave girls and 10 boys—who have found strength, hope, and love through our education, self empowerment and Karate training program.
These children have taught me so much about self confidence, courage and love. Girls like Gauri (name changed), just 14 years old, belonging from a scheduled caste, were at the risk of prostitution and have now broken free from cycles of exploitation that generations before them couldn’t escape.
By learning Karate step by step, Gauri learned the confidence to stand up against injustice—not just for herself, but for her mother and sisters too. Today, they’re building a dignified life together, filled with hope and possibility.
There are other girls, like Kareena (name changed), a 15-year-old girl whose dreams are as daring as her kicks. She wants to become a karate instructor. Seeing her excel in studies and sports reminds me of how important it is for children to dream and to provide them with the facilities to pursue them in a safe space. Gauri and Kareena are just two of many children who are showing us how to build self-confidence.
At our Apne Aap centers, we have seen what a difference giving a life and proper guidance to children can make. These children are not just surviving; they are moving forward, excelling in school and leading their own battles in their communities. The presence of children in our centers, their laughing and fun, is proof of the safe space it provides them, a place we have created together, a place where children can learn, study, and simply be themselves.
In this festival season, our duty towards children and your faith in us has brought immense joy to these young lives. Thank you for being a part of their adventurous journey. Let us all work together to make the future of these youths- “One Kick, One Dream and Overall Win at a Time”
You are the reason these stories are possible. Let’s keep the hope alive this holiday season.
