" LABORATORY PROJECT OF RURAL SCHOOLS IN INDIA ".

The Main Scope of the Project is :

Aim of the project

“A project to fulfill the essential laboratory needs of 3 high schools and 2 higher secondary schools in remote rural & tribal villages to make teaching and learning easy both for the teachers, as well as for the students”.

 Scope of the Project

• To make essential additions to the laboratories for Physics, Chemistry and Biology so that the students are helped to get a first-hand learning experience by performing various experiments on their own; (list of equipments appended to this project application )
• To allow students to interact directly with the data that is gathered and to get a first-hand learning experience by performing different experiments on their own.
• To get students make use of the models and then understand the different scientific concepts and theories;.

 Project location

The 5 project schools are situated in remote rural villages in Kalasapakkam Block of Thiruvannamalai district, Tamilnadu State, India.

Outcomes of the project

• Increased ability of the teachers in giving students first-hand experiences.
• Improved motivation of the teachers to involve students making use of laboratory equipments and make of their teaching interesting for the students;
• More than 2875 poor students were learning becomes based on concrete, direct, first-hand experience and not based on abstract thinking.
• Involvement of the Parents & Teachers Association in project activities & create a Maintenance Fund to make replacements to laboratory materials.

Monitoring & evaluation

-          Mr. R.BALU, the secretary of BOSS NGO mainly Monitored for all activities connected to the project.

-          An Implementation & Monitoring Committee have constituted that will consist of representative of BOSS NGO and one representative each from School Management Committees in the 5 project schools. This committee had been often as necessary to see the progress of the project. 

-          Monitoring and documentation are continuous and ongoing activity.

-          Evaluation in relation to the processes as well as the products and some of the indicators are as follows:

o   Procurement of all needed and essential equipments and materials

o   Usage of the five laboratories – number of practical sessions by teachers of all five disciplines 

o   Feedback of teachers – to be assessed through the conduct of in-depth interactions with teachers in all 5 schools

o   Feedback of students – to be assessed through the organization of focus group discussions in all 5 schools – one focus group discussion with 10 students in lower standards in each school (6^th to 8^th standard & in each school) & one focus group discussion with 10 students in higher standards (9^th to 12^th standards).
