Shan Youth Safety Training to End Risky Migration (SYSTERM) is a project training Shan (Thai Yai) youth leaders from Thailand and Myanmar on safe migration. After the training these youth leaders return to their home regions being empowered to work with local organizations to providing education, trainings, and protection for their peers.
Lately the SYSTERM project had to struggle with problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The educational center has been put under curbs to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and was forced to stop activities that would bring together groups of people. Furthermore, there ongoing hostilities between different groups in Myanmar caused an increase of refugees that try to reach a safe place to stay.
Two of youth leaders that recently finished their training received a scholarship to pursue further education at university level. Being able to go and study at a university in Wang Noi District of Ayutthaya Province. Another group of graduates was able to register with Distance Education Promotion and Development Center in Mekong Sub-Region. All of them are studying for a primary school. Some of them have already finished their first term. For that reason the centre could announce to register additional students for this opportunity. Some other recently registers for the new term and could benefit from the orientation through their peers.
The SYSTERM project would like to thank all past, present, and future donors for opening this opportunity for this group of youth leaders. Thank you very much!
