African women face a range of challenges, including unequal representation in leadership roles. This issue is often linked to the limited availability of effective career empowerment initiatives for African women. In response to this problem, the LEAP Leadership Institute has introduced The Leadership Accelerator Programme. The objectives of this programme is to build a community of highly skilled female professionals; equip them with the skills they need to thrive in their professional lives and on the global workplace stage; empower young African female professionals through financial literacy and independence; and upskill female professionals with the expertise needed to thrive in their careers.

During the year, In collaboration with the Women In Leadership Advancement Network, we launched the 2023 edition of the Leadership Accelerator Programme (LAP) with 4 Programme Phases:

  • The Young Women Leaders Massive Open Online Course (MOOC): is a combination of 5 short-paced online courses of 3 weeks by the LEAP Leadership Institute for high-potential young African women on topical issues affecting women in the workplace and hindering them from thriving professionally. Following a thorough assessment of the received applications by the LLI Team, a  total of 5,292 young African female professionals were admitted to the eLearning Learning Management System (LMS).

  • Leadership Accelerator Programme (1-week intensive Bootcamp):  a 5-day Bootcamp that welcomed 31 diverse participants hailing from 6 distinct African nations, some of whom had never previously experienced Lagos, Nigeria. After careful consideration of the requirements, 31 distinct participants across 6 African countries were selected to attend the Bootcamp and they consisted of 1 Zimbabwean, 1 Sierra Leonean, 1 Ugandan, 1 Kenyan, 1 Cameroonian, and 25 Nigerians.

  • Capstone Projects: Participants are currently in the process of submitting capstone projects that highlight their post-bootcamp plans and serve as a platform to demonstrate the knowledge and skills they have acquired during the program.

  • Mentorship: At the end of the Bootcamp, participants will be matched with mentors, the selection is based on the specific needs they have identified in the forms they have filled out. The mentorship program will extend for six months, with participants and their mentors meeting once or twice a month, as agreed upon.

Through your support, we can equip more African Women with the right leadership skills for the continent’s development. We are setting the pace to do so much more in 2024 and beyond, and we are counting on your unwavering support in equipping more Women in Africa with the right leadership skills for the continent’s development.
