We will build a resource centre in Kibuli providing free access to books, computers and a space for skills development for in and out-of-school- children living in slums.
7 out of every 10 children in Uganda drop out of school before completing Primary level. Most of these live in slums and dropout without basic literacy or life skills, which exposes them to child labour and crime.
We are currently running a literacy and health program for over 300 children in 2 community schools in the Kibuli slum (Kampala). To reach more children and support more community schools in the area, we would like to set up a safe educational space for children, that complements existing education structures.
This children's community resource centre will serve over 4,000 children annually in the area through literacy and expression programs, ICT in education, community health and sanitation trainings, and skills support. With this centre, we shall place over 100 professional and regular volunteers to support efforts to reduce school dropouts in the area, improve literacy and offer entrepreneurial support through skills training.
