LEBANON CRISIS

By Katarzyna Pokornowska | Business Partnership Specialist

The war in Lebanon, which lasted from the last week of September to the last week of November 2024, resulted in widespread displacement and severe humanitarian needs. Thousands of families were forced to flee their homes, seeking refuge in collective shelters across Northern Lebanon. As the conflict subsided, many displaced households began returning to Beirut, often to homes that were damaged or lacked essential resources. The scale of displacement and the urgent need for psychological and material support necessitated a rapid and targeted humanitarian response. In response, PAH's local Partner, IHR, launched an emergency intervention to address the critical needs of displaced and recently returned families. The intervention focused on two main components:

  1. Psychological First Aid (PFA) Group Sessions – A total of 60 sessions were conducted, reaching over 1,500 individuals residing in collective shelters across Northern Lebanon. Following the ceasefire, additional sessions were organized in Beirut to provide psychosocial support to returning households. These sessions were facilitated by 2 experienced female PFA trainers, ensuring a trauma-informed approach tailored to the needs of affected individuals.
  2. Hygiene Kit (HK) Distribution – Initially planned to distribute 1,500 hygiene kits, the intervention ultimately reached 1,923 displaced, affected, and recently returned households. While distributions primarily took place in collective shelters, a portion of the kits was provided in collaboration with municipalities and area representatives to ensure that the most vulnerable populations were reached.
