Dear friend,
Happy holidays from us at Pomoc deci! With the cold, windy weather, refugee camps in the south of Serbia have seen more and more refugees requesting a bed to sleep in, some food and warmth. The camps are a home to more than 150 men, women and children from across the Middle East.
One of these families is the Razazadegen family. The parents and two children, Hamun and Sofia, are originally from Syria and they would like to go to Germany one day. Until then, they call Serbia their home.
Their story begins when they arrived in late 2017 to Serbia. In the two years since, they have lived in three different refugee camps (Belgrade, Bujanovac and Vranje). Over the years, children have also grown. Little Hamun was only one when the family left Syria. Now, he is constructing sentences, playing with puzzles and modeling for his mother’s baby photography hobby. Sofia is also very creative and friendly. As soon as she arrived in Bujanovac, she befriended our local psycho-social support coordinator, Maja, who helped Sofia nurture her hobby.
She also regularly attends classes at a local elementary school. Schools in Vranje and Bujanovac have specifically tailored programs for refugees. Through fun activities, Sofia (and kids like her), are able to develop their skills and language abilities. After two years, Sofia can now talk to other kids in English and Serbian, participates in recitals and has made a lot of new friends! You did this! Without your support, there wouldn't have been anyone to help her develop her language skills.
Just a few weeks ago, she celebrated her sixth birthday. Thanks to your support, Sofia received school supplies, sweatpants and a backpack to hold everything in. Now, she is ready to go to a proper school!
Activities, such as art workshops, language and school classes, and ICT skill development courses are all tremendously important to help young Sofia, Hamun and children like them, to grow up in a safe, nurturing environment.
We need you. With Christmas approaching, this giving season help us raise funds to continue to provide opportunities for young families and children. In order to be able to continue to provide fundamental psycho-social support to young families, we are dependent on donations from individual supporters like yourself.
What can you do?
These are small acts of kindness, but to young children, they are invaluable :)
Don’t forget to connect with us online (facebook, instagram or our website), we’d love to hear from you!
Warm regards,
Pomoc deci team
