Aya and Naya on the Bright Clouds over their Beloved Home

By Ljiljana Vasic | Director

Aya's and Naya's sunny valley, clouds and home...
Aya's and Naya's sunny valley, clouds and home...

Behind the far away hills, in a peaceful valley full of flowers and lush trees, along the calm river, there is a small house with a red door and red windows. One can almost smell family love and warmth in it. Sun is shining over the house every day. The birds fly freely in the bright sky. Everyone who has seen that house wants to live in it. But it is the home of the Syrian girls, Aya and her baby sister Naya.

In the sunny days they used to play in the green valley along the river. That certain moment of carefree childhood would be never forgotten. Now it is sealed in a drawing on the wall of the playroom in a refugee camp in Krnjaca, near Belgrade, capital of Serbia.

Aya is the only one young “artist” who has signed her painting in the white clouds over beloved home. She and her sister Naya will always be there to take care. Walls of the playing room in the refugee camp are covered all over with the drawing massages. Children fulfilled white papers with picturesque symbols of love and peace.

On the long trip from home there are places such as Krnjaca refugee camp where they are leaving part of their hearts. It is for all of us to remember, to be there with helping hands, to spread the message to the people who can help them. Not just to survive, but to have a peaceful place to live and grow.

Every day in the Krnjaca camp there are still about thirty children, says Rade Ciric, Head of the refugee camp. According to the new political decision about refugee rights in seeking the asylum in the European countries, there are many families who are stuck in the Balkans route to Europe. The official records state that there are about 2,000 of them.

Five-year old Muhamed, his younger brother Mamun and their baby sister Arba are the newest residents in Krnjaca. When we met them, two little boys were playing with each other in the camp halls. Taking the photo was a new game for them. It was just enough for the joyful smile. More than a year ago their family left Damascus. For some time they lived in Lebanon and Turkey. They travelled to Germany to meet their cousins there, but they were sent back from Croatia border. They didn’t know how long they have to wait for another try to cross the border.

This winter Pomoc deci has provided winter jackets, warm shoes and hygiene items for the children from Syria. We also provided sleeping bags, tents, first aid kits and organized volunteer psycho-social assistance to the families. But it we see that it is not enough!

Join us in our Programme Let's Help Syrian Refugee Children in Serbia Now!” Let us help together those children to survive, to grow in a safe place. Warm clothing, a blanket, a toy ... just for one child could be our message that we think of them, that they are not alone along the long dangerous road.

Together we could do more, so please support us to help children in need! Saving their lives, health and providing humanitarian assistance to their families during their long journey to safety, we are helping both refugees and the authorities in all the countries they are in.

Please donate whatever you can and be one of us who would be happy to help as many refugee children as possible!
