What is THE most basic human right?

By Debra aka Brique Zeiner | Chairwoman

Feeding SMILES!
Feeding SMILES!

What is THE most basic human right? Every human being has the basic right to food and clean drinking water. According to the United Nations report, the world loses 25,000 people to hunger every day of the year - roughly 15,000 of them are children. The mere fact that at this very moment, while reading this report, approximately 10 children are starving to death is a devastating fact.

We may not be able to change the world - but we can change the lives of hundreds of children every day.

Well-nourished children can learn better, think critically and focus on what children are supposed to focus on - school and play, not on empty growling stomachs and heartwrenching thirst. Improving child nutrition impacts children's health and their ability to grow into strong and successful adults.

Live and Learn in Kenya International's main priority is educating the poorest of the poor so that they will break away from the vicious circle of poverty. Only through education can children grow into strong and self-confident adults who can contribute to their communities and pass that on to their own children. But without proper nutrition that is not possible. This is why Live and Learn in Kenya International puts so much effort into providing warm and nutritious meals 6 days a week and water is available throughout the Live and Learn in Kenya Education Center with a sink in every classroom.

Besides filling their tummies and giving them a reason to smile - we are all giving these children hope and paving the way to a future where hunger was just a word of the past.

Thank you - asante sana - for being a part of this challenge!
