Bit by Bit

Recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Mathews is a long term goal for the environment and for the people living in the South of Haiti.  Not only we lost well established trees, among our partners we register the lost of  320,000 seedlings.  As of last report our partners had already started172,448 new seedlings among themselves.

SADN (Societe de development of Nippes) did not wait for anyone to come, they started with the minimal resources they had to gather what wasleft of their home made nurseries and renew their effort to plant over 80,000 seedling.

On july 24th, we met with representatives of 14 partners and subsequently visited other partners on site.  They have moved ahead with the field work planting food but also with the nurseries that comes into the plan of each project.  The board also looked at 8 new projects that will be planting 20,000 new trees each.  This will add a potential 160,000 new seedlings by the end of 2018.  We will still be looking ahead to the production of 127,552 trees to make up for the Hurricane loss in the south.

You have contributed to our progress thus far, with your gift your support and encouragement.  As I read a report relating to the increase in ground cover in Haiti I am encouraged and our partners are impressive in their capacity to work hard to return to pre Hurricane Mathew conditions.

We hope that you will continue to plant trees in partnership with Haitian rural farmers and bit by bit we will reach our goal of improved environment, less erosion and improved quality of life.

Thank you so much for your engagement.
