To date, we have received a total of $890. We are very grateful for the people and institutions that have collaborated with our institution to benefit children suffering from leukemia and HIV in Venezuela.
The contribution we have received has enabled us to diagnose 17 children with leukemia who have been referred by public hospitals in Venezuela, mainly the Hospital de Niños “JM de los Ríos”, Ciudad Hospitalaria “Dr. Enrique Tejera” y Hospital Universitario de Los Andes. These health centers are attended by the most vulnerable populations that do not have sufficient financial resources to undergo molecular diagnostic tests. These tests are beneficial as they enable physicians to provide the best possible treatment for each individual case.
In fact, parents, representatives or relatives of these children spend between 12 and 14 hours traveling by bus to get to the capital of the city, Caracas, where the headquarters of the Fundación Jacinto Convit are located to bring the sample of their children's blood. The sample must come refrigerated, therefore many have to replace the ice packs at some stops to ensure that the sample arrives in the optimal conditions needed for it to be processed effectively.
