In November 2023, we participated in the Giving Tuesday event with our project, obtaining significant contributions to provide care to pediatric and adult populations with leukemia who attend hospitals in the national public network. This population comes from low and middle socio-economic strata of Venezuelan society; they are families who lack resources to seek diagnosis from private laboratories, a service which the Foundation offers to them free of charge.
The funds raised were allocated to the acquisition of reagents and supplies to continue offering free molecular diagnostic services to oncology patients, during the months of November 2023 (20), December 2023 (21), and January 2024 (29), totaling 70 patients over a 3-month period.
At the beginning of 2024, we initiated the approval process for a new cooperation agreement with Hospital Central de Maracay, located 1.5 hours from Caracas. We are currently completing the legal procedures for signing. With this agreement, we add eleven (11) public health centers that are being served with our free molecular diagnostic services.
In March, we will have a new scientific publication in the Gaceta Médica de Caracas, a specialized journal, titled: "Estandarización de la técnica de PCR anidada para la detección de las translocaciones TCF3/PBX1 y KMT2A/AFF1 en pacientes con leucemia linfoide aguda remitidos a la Unidad de Diagnóstico Molecular de la Fundación Jacinto Convit", which will be published in volume 132 (1) 2024 of the mentioned journal.
From Fundación Jacinto Convit, we continue working day by day to advance this program and continue serving the Venezuelan population most in need, making an invaluable contribution to the healthcare sector in the country.
