Update: Leuser Nature School Secured for the Future!

By Rhia Docherty | Individual Giving Manager

We're writing with some wonderful news about the Leuser Nature School in Sumatra! Thanks to your incredible support which has enabled the school to grow and flourish over the last 6 years, our frontline partners have secured long-term funding to ensure the school's vital work continues for years to come.

As you know, the Leuser Nature School, nestled within a vibrant forest restoration site in Sumatra, has been a beacon of hope for children and families in forest-edge communities. It provides free education while fostering a deep connection to the incredible biodiversity surrounding them – a place where orangutans, elephants, tigers, rhinos, and countless other species thrive.

Your generosity has played a crucial role in empowering these communities to become guardians of their irreplaceable natural heritage. We've seen firsthand the positive impact of this unique educational model, where learning and conservation go hand-in-hand.

We're thrilled that the school has secured a sustainable funding source that will allow the Leuser Nature School to thrive and eventually become self-sustaining. This marks a significant milestone in our efforts to empower local communities and protect Sumatra's precious rainforests. However, this does mean we will be closing the Leuser Nature School project on GlobalGiving at the end of the month.

While the Leuser Nature School project is concluding on GlobalGiving, your support is still vital to our ongoing work. We invite you to explore our other projects and continue making a difference for orangutans and rainforest communities:

Your support matters. Help us continue protecting orangutans and their rainforest homes. By supporting one of these projects, you can continue to contribute to a bright and thriving future for Sumatra’s orangutans, forests and people..

We are so grateful for your past contributions and hope you’ll continue to be a part of our journey. If you'd like to learn more about our work or discuss how you can further support our mission, please don't hesitate to contact us at info@orangutans-sos.org

Thank you for being a champion for orangutans and the rainforests of Sumatra.

With sincere gratitude,
Sumatran Orangutan Society
