“I thought I would sleep on the street that night.”
In February, a young gay man in Tanga was forced out of his home after neighbors reported him. Within hours, he lost his shelter and safety. That same night, your support enabled LGBT Voice Tanzania to relocate him to a safe space, provide food, and connect him to a peer supporter. Two weeks later, he shared: “For the first time, I felt human again.”
Between January and April 2026, your donations helped LGBTQ+ individuals in Tanga and Morogoro move from crisis to safety, stability, and dignity.
Context and Need
LGBTQ+ people in Tanzania continue to face violence, family rejection, and forced evictions. Many have no access to safe housing, legal protection, or mental health support. Tanga and Morogoro remain high-risk regions, with increasing reports of displacement and community hostility.
What Your Support Made Possible
Emergency Protection and Shelter
Your donations enabled rapid relocation and temporary shelter for individuals facing immediate threats. In many cases, people were moved to safety within 24 hours—preventing homelessness and further harm.
Psychosocial Support and Healing
Through peer networks and emotional support, individuals experiencing trauma and isolation found connection and stability. One beneficiary in Morogoro shared: “I stopped feeling alone. That changed everything.”
Legal Guidance and Protection
We provided discreet legal support to help individuals safely navigate police encounters and community threats, reducing risk while protecting their rights.
