Greetings to all Cast Your Nets Supporters from the Central Visayas Philippines.
The last few months have been very busy for us, specifically the fact we sent a group of four children and parents to Davao for surgery. This was our first surgical trip to The Tebow Cure Hospital under the “new normal” rules since the pandemic and we met several challenges!
The group gathered at LCP and then taken to Port of Dumaguete to board the Cokaliong Ferry to Cebu. We arrived laten in Cebu in the morning and rushed to the Cebu Airport to catch our flights to Davao. We arrived in Davao and we were taken to Tebow Cure Hospital for COVID testing. Unfortunately, one mother tested positive so the entire group had to be quarantined for 5 days in a hotel. Then everyone tested a second time and three others tested positive. All those testing positive were taken to a Davao City Quarantine Center for 7 days. Once everyone tested negative, they were brought to their homes provided for their stay. Then the children began their treatment plan and weekly casting process as needed. Listed below are the children and a brief recap of the results.
Vhrena Age 2 Mother: Vergil Lyn
Mild Club Foot needed casting for 3 weeks and then a minor tendon surgery. She was sent home in a cast and some boots to wear once casts are removed. Doing fine now and enjoying her ability to walk alone.
Angelito Age 7 Mother: Evelyn
Partial Amputated Leg. Required stump revision surgery to prepare for upcoming prosthetic leg. Stump Revision surgery was done and Angelito was sent home. He is scheduled to travel to Davao and stay at Davao Jubilee Foundation where he will be fitted with a prosthetic leg.
Miles Keith Age 3 Mother: Karyll Kate
Mild Club Feet previously treated with casting, but with COVID family could not maintain PT and orthodontics needed. Keith had 3 weeks of casting and then a minor tendon surgery. He was able to return home with his cast which was removed after 4 weeks. He is currently wearing his new boots and running around like a 3-year-old should.
Aby Age 9 Mother: Jane April
Severe Club Feet. Required 6 weeks of Casting then surgery to straighten feet. She had pins installed and additional casting for one month. Returning in October to have pins removed and last casting. When she returns home, she can begin bearing weight and doing Physical Therapy.
As you see from above, Angelito and Aby will be returning in October for further treatment. That trip will be leaving Dumaguete on October 3rd, and will include one more client. That client, Khert is an 18-year-old young man who was born with club feet. We have been trying to get him treatment since our first clinic in 2019, God has paved the way for him now.
Thanks for all your contributions, as you can see our trips have become a lot more lengthy, complex, and costly!
