Project Report | Jan 5, 2024
LJ Writing and Mentoring Project, January 4, 2024

By Yvonne J. Medley | LJWG Executive Director/Project Leader

Empowering Women!
Empowering Women!

Dear Givers and Lovers of the Literary Arts,

The Life Journeys Writers Club, Inc., regarding its Life Journeys Writing and Mentoring Project (LJW&M), has been hard at work! It continued conducting workshops for women in transitional programs (with a new series of writing workshops) and attended its Holiday celebration in December. LJWG rendered literary-incentive giveaways and Christmas gifts throughout. LJWG continued its support of the Charles County Drug Court via its partnership with Families in Recovery. Through its Publishing Project, it mentored writers one-on-one and ushered several writers into authorship. Through our (LJW&M) workshops, we facilitated several, introducing newcomers to the organization! And we accrued new members!

The Life Journeys Writers Guild held its 2023 Holiday Gathering, featuring a Hallmark film watch party at a beautiful venue—a premiere showing of a screenwriter’s work who will be the presenter for our upcoming 17th Annual Season Opener and Winter Big Quarterly for 2024 (on Zoom). Our Big Quarterly presenter will teach his techniques for the script that struck gold.

We are connecting with Southern Maryland’s Native American population/the Piscataway Conoy Tribe—to celebrate its culturally rich historical roots. LJWG intends to support and highlight that fact via the LJW&M Project by mentoring men, women, and children.

We’ve continued our support and efforts to promote and inform about Blacks in the military during World War II and The Cold War. We’ve begun efforts to create a documentary based on the memoir titled The Color of the Band: A Soldier Triumphs in Love and Overcomes Hate in Occupied Germany and Beyond. During the Veterans Day weekend, we appeared on NBC and engaged in events and interviews to spread that important chapter of American history.

The LJWC (its dba is Life Journeys Writers Guild) Mission Film Project, The Prison Plumb Line, continues to stream on Tubi for all to benefit from its universal message. To support just click and view! We use the film to spur creative writing expressions and discussions about second chances, positive decision-making, and more. We’re using it as a public awareness tool.

A sincere thank you for all your tax-deductible donations and for those few dedicated givers, making recurring donations. Your generous gifts enable us to feed the passions of those who love and need to engage in the Literary Arts.

Kindly, I hope you will spread the good word on the wealth of writing, how we’re working hard to make a difference, and that even a modest monthly gift such as $10/$25 (tax-deductible) can fuel our impact on the world. All in all, we are very grateful!

Thank you,

Yvonne J. Medley,

LJWC Founder/Executive Director
