Destigmatizing Menstruation

By Anna Schwaller | Project Assistant

Educational Session on Menstrual Health
Educational Session on Menstrual Health

Blue Cross Chad regularly hosts information events targeting primarily schoolgirls to discuss menstruation and menstrual products.

It is crucial to emphasize that the topic of menstrual hygiene is often considered taboo in our society and is therefore rarely discussed. However, it is of great importance to educate young girls early on about the importance of maintaining proper menstrual hygiene in order to prevent health problems. It is equally important for girls to understand the physiological changes their bodies undergo during mensturation and the implications of having a menstrual cycle.

During these informative sessions, various types of sanitary products and their usage are presented. Students actively engage and seize the opportunity to ask personal questions that are typically not discussed. The aim is for girls to gain a better understanding of their menstrual cycle and how to manage it effectively.

Sensitizing young people is very important for them to take charge of their health and gain a deeper understanding of their changing bodies. It also involves dismantling taboos and emphasizing that there is no need to feel ahsamed. This, in turn, can bolster their self-confidence and encourage them to engage in more open discussions about their bodies and experiences.

Thank you very much for supporting our work generously!
