The hot and humid summer in the Philippines significantly affect the health of the children. Recently, twelve (12) kids were brought to the emergency room due to gastrointestinal issues, vomiting and fever. Most of them are still undergoing treatment. One of the older girls was diagnosed with pneumonia despite prior antibiotic treatment. Additionally, an eight-month-old baby boy was diagnosed with congenital heart disease – specifically, a secundum atrial septal defect, following a heart ultrasound. He has been prescribed appropriate medication and will undergo follow up check-ups. Another five-year-old girl, despite multiple medication attempts, continued to experience persistent rashes, leading to allergen-specific immunoglobulin E (IgE) testing.
The medical coordinator and house parents are diligently monitoring the children’s symptoms and progress. To bolster their immune systems, the children are receiving Vitamin C, multivitamins, fruits, and increase water intake. Furthermore, they are being scheduled for immunizations, including Diptheria-Tetanus-Pertussis (DTP) and oral polio vaccine at the nearest health center. Additionally, the children are required to continue wearing face masks during visitor interactions and outreach activities to prevent the spread of diseases.
During this reporting period, Tahanan ng Pagmamahal is caring for forty-two (42) children aged seven (7) months to thirteen (13) years old. All of them are receiving complete and nutritious meals, along with formula milk. Special milk variants such as Pediasure and lactose-free options are provided to eight (8) children with specific health concerns.
We profusely thank you for all the generosity and love you’ve continuously showered our kids May the good Lord reward you for all you’ve shared with us and keep you safe always in all ways.
