LIVES Food Truck “OOPEN” starts the Shopping Project for the Elderly Community!!

LIVES food Truck “OOPEN” goes around Tokyo without a break amidst the COVID situation, to serve the communities with delicious lunch, prepared by Chef Kyozuka and his staff with disabilities. With the support of HOUSE FOODS Group, the team uses the HOUSE Keema Curry Roux and adds coffee, cinnamon sticks, cumin seed, garam masala, little bit of chocolate and tomato puree, to make their special curry!! We also have Hashed chicken, a special rice bowl, produced by Chef Kuroiwa of “le-clos” in Osaka.

OOPEN alternates these two menus and sells now at two locations. Hopefully we can expand our venue after the State of Emergency in Tokyo.

Staff and volunteers take all measures possible to protect the spread of the COVID by wearing masks, taking temperature, washing hands, using sanitization spray and gloves.

Now we have plans to participate in events in September in Saitama prefecture, and are also planning to be at the LIVES TOKYO event in Roppongi on September 26th. Please check out our next report.

Besides selling lunches, we started this month in June, a shopping project for the elderly community in Tokyo. This is a compound with 15 apartment buildings, where most of the tenants are in their 70s and 80s, and some of them live by themselves. Their apartment buildings are about 30 minute-walk from the train station and grocery shopping is a challenge for some of them.

OOPEN goes to them with fresh vegetables from the farm, and the volunteers help carry the heavy vegetables, such as potatoes, daikon radish, onions, cabbage, and carrots to their apartment doors. Some of the elderly people are in wheelchairs, some cannot walk properly, and some simply want to talk to younger people. We had some university students there to help out and they were a big support for the elderly customers. This is a bi-weekly project on Saturdays, and the people at the compound mark their calendars and look forward to the day of the food truck!!

Food Truck OOPEN is moving!!
Thanks to all your support, we are able to continue operating the food truck and pay the staff with disabilities!! Work, Eat & Laugh!! The motto of LIVES Initiative!! We are all having great fun.
