A Life-Changing Gift: Sreynich’s Story
Following the distribution of bicycles in Siem Reap Province, we conducted random home visits to check in on some of the recipients. One of the girls we visited was Sreynich. When we arrived at her home, we saw her new bicycle parked near the pump well—freshly washed and gleaming. It was clear that this bicycle meant a great deal to her and her family!
Sreynich, 13 years old, is a newly enrolled 7th grader at Bayon Junior High School in Kokbeng village, Kok commune, Siem Reap province. She is the youngest of seven siblings, but only she and her sister have had the opportunity to pursue education. Originally from Varin district (65 km from Siem Reap), she now lives with her sister in Kok Tachan village to attend school more easily.
Sreynich’s new bicycle has transformed her daily routine. “Without this bicycle, I [was] a burden to my sister and her family. They only have one motorbike, which they used to take me to school every day. Now, I can go on my own without disturbing them,” she shared.
Inspired by her parents and sisters, Sreynich dreams of becoming a teacher. “I love [that] they share knowledge and educate future generations,” she said. Her sister, who serves as her guardian, emphasized, “Our five other siblings never had the chance to attend school. I am determined to ensure these two finish high school. I don’t want them to end up like us—working as construction laborers or cleaners.”
Sreynich and her sister are incredibly grateful for the support from Lotus Outreach and the Lotus Pedals Program. This simple yet impactful donation has given Sreynich the opportunity to continue her education and chase her dreams.
A Look Back on Last Year
Great news! In 2024, we initially planned to distribute 100 bicycles but successfully provided 141, thanks to additional funding from donors like you!
Additionally, after the selection process of 100 new students in another Lotus Outreach program, GATE (Girls Access to Education) in Phnom Penh, the program realized that 33 students needed bicycles. In July, we managed to provide 19 bicycle sets to them.
For 2025, the Lotus Pedals Project aims to provide approximately 110 bicycles, complete with locks, pumps, and helmets, to vulnerable schoolgirls across Cambodia. As of now, we have distributed 91 bicycle sets!
Thank You!
We deeply appreciate your ongoing commitment to providing education and mobility to vulnerable girls in Cambodia. With your support, we continue to empower young women, one bicycle at a time.
