“Hello teacher~ May I ask how many students there are...?”
As the first week of the new semester draws to a close, we are still carefully confirming the number of students in each rural school.
To avoid any feelings of comparison among the children, we double-check everything before restarting our Children Are Us Delivery to Tribal Areas program each term. Even though it's time-consuming, we don't mind—because we know how much these small, handmade bakery lunchboxes carry.
They carry the courage of our youth with intellectual disabilities—bravely breaking free from their cocoons—and they also carry their life stories, which quietly accompany rural children as they grow strong and chase their dreams.
