One meal box can become a journey of connection.
It was another day full of anticipation as we set out for Shenkeng! Thanks to the generous support of the Farcent Education Foundation, we visited the after-school program at the Deep Love Family Care Association, bringing meal boxes filled with warmth and heartfelt blessings directly to the children.
Joining us in this outreach were two adults with intellectual disabilities, Hsiang and Hsun.
Hsiang is an excellent communicator and volunteers as a tour guide at the Zhongshan Craft Studio on weekends. For today’s self-introduction session, he even prepared a handwritten note and practiced carefully.
Hsun, on the other hand, moves at his own rhythm. Though his speech is slower, he never forgets what he is assigned to do. A bread-making enthusiast, he shows his attention to detail in everyday actions.
A Once-in-a-Lifetime Meeting, A Heartfelt Experience
We asked the children, “Do you know the CAREUS Foundation?”
They eagerly replied, “Yes! You bring delicious meal boxes!”
Although it was our first time meeting, the children’s enthusiasm quickly melted away the awkwardness. Guided by the after-school teachers, the participants began a drawing activity titled “A Day to Be Grateful.”
From the sunrise, clouds, and trees to friends and family—everything is worth giving thanks for. Using bright crayons, the adults and children filled their papers with the people and things they appreciate, savoring every joyful moment in life.
A glimpse at a nearby child’s drawing revealed a picture of a CAREUS bakery meal box, with the words “” written in tiny characters. The simple artwork reflected the child’s genuine affection and gratitude.
The sincerity of both the adults and the children shone through their drawings—showing how even the smallest gestures can spark meaningful emotions. Every act of kindness was cherished deeply within their hearts.
Hand in Hand: Giving Children More Possibilities
CAREUS Foundation has long been committed to providing vocational training and care services for adults with intellectual disabilities. Through structured skill training, they learn professional abilities that reduce family caregiving burdens. At the same time, CAREUS helps them grow, discover their strengths, pursue their dreams, step into the community, and integrate with society—opening doors to new possibilities.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the Farcent Education Foundation for connecting kindness and supporting this outreach program. Each meal box forms a link in a growing chain:
the workers in sheltered workshops gain hands-on training and employment opportunities, while the children in the after-school program enjoy delicious meals infused with love.
From the aroma of freshly baked bread begins a lesson in life—one that can travel far and wide. The warmth and kindness exchanged today will remain in the hearts of both groups of children for years to come.
