Celebrating its 18th year since inception, the Careus Foundation has launched its annual Mid-Autumn "Sending Love to Tribal Villages" campaign, aiming to raise 45,762 mooncake gift boxes for children in remote and under-resourced schools across New Taipei City, Changhua County, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Chiayi County, Tainan City, and Hualien County. Since 2009, this initiative has spanned 265 townships and delivered over 550,000 festive gifts to 1,183 schools, serving as a vital bridge between society and individuals with developmental disabilities.
Beyond providing holiday cheer, these gift boxes function as powerful lessons in life and inclusion education. Schools such as Liyu Elementary School integrate the campaign into special education and life education curricula, helping students understand how individuals with cognitive disabilities create value through work. At Chunyang Elementary School, located in an extremely remote area, the gifts bring much-needed festive ritual and joy. Meanwhile, students at Dongli Elementary School have transformed this sustained support into active reciprocity, repurposing gift packaging for storage and hosting campus charity sales to give back to the foundation.
By participating, donors not only ensure that remote children experience warmth and community connection during the festive season, but they also provide stable employment opportunities and occupational dignity for the foundation's workers.
