Connecting with those making a difference

By James Paul | Senior Grant Writer

Recently, our team in Thailand left our desks behind for a day in the community - and what we witnessed was powerful.

We visited one of our long-standing foster families to lead a training workshop, share stories, and celebrate the strength of the foster care network growing across the region. But this wasn’t just about logistics or policy - it was about people.

The day began with a simple question:
"What do you love about being a foster parent?"

One mother, Nee, who with her husband has fostered eight children, shared this:

“No matter where they are, they will always be a part of our family and our hearts.”

“Since she left our family, I almost can’t bring myself to eat spicy food - it just doesn’t taste the same without her.”

Her words reminded us that foster care isn’t a service. It’s family. It’s lifelong love.

Later, we visited a nearby school where three foster children are thriving. In a room filled with teachers, nurses, doctors, and community leaders, we ran a workshop on how to support children who have faced immense hardship. It was a beautiful picture of shared responsibility - a community determined to see every child succeed.

As our Project Manager Jane Arnott put it:

“This day wasn’t extraordinary because of what we did - but because of who we were with. Foster parents, social workers, and community members came together not out of duty, but out of love.”

This is the transformation you’re helping make possible. Because of you, more children in Thailand are growing up in safe, loving families - surrounded by communities who believe in them.

Thank you for standing with us, and with children who deserve the love of a family.
