Busy Days, Happy Days at School!

By Lilik C Trirahayu | School Principal

Warmest greetings from The Lilliput World!

Time has flown since our November update and now we are already well into 2024!  It’s been a great few months and wonderful to see the children learning and progressing as the days go by.  It’s also been a season of celebrations with Christmas, the Balinese silent day of Nyepi and now the beginning of Ramadan, all providing an opportunity for children to start learning about these important festivals.  We took the opportunity of Fathers’ Day to recognise and talk about the role of a father in the family and as a pillar in the development of a child's emotional well-being while children and parents made Teachers' Day a very special and touching occasion with their outpouring of thanks and appreciation of our wonderful teachers!  Everyone is a teacher through the example of what they think, say and do, so we also all wished each other a very Happy Teachers' Day!

In between these special days and holidays, the normal – and busy! – routines of school life carried on with all classes running at or close to maximum capacity.  We have learned much during the past couple of years and it’s been inspiring to see the growth of our children and how their relationship with teachers keeps developing.  We maintain a high teacher-student ratio and have been supporting teachers on professional development courses to help boost and update their skills and knowledge.  One new activity we recently carried out was to explain to students the importance and benefits of saving so they can start to develop this useful habit from an early age, understand about the value of money and how to put it to good use.  This concluded with a visit to a bookshop to buy a book with money that had been saved.

The 3rd February saw the official establishment of the Lilliput World Parents Community, which is purely organised by parents who wish to stay closely in touch with and support the school and its activities.  It also provides a forum in which parents can share some of their knowledge, experiences, joys and challenges in bringing up children.  We feel blessed on seeing our parents growing along with children and teachers as one community.

Meanwhile, behind the scenes of everyday classes, we are also preparing for the big move to our new building, which is not far away now.  On the one hand, we are talking with parents of prospective new students, both for half-day and full day classes while also getting ready to welcome and train new teachers and ordering apparatus and furniture.  At the same time parents are busy preparing for an open house to be held over three days next month and teachers are running Saturdate, a trial introductory class presenting the Lilliput World community and our system and approach.  So, you can feel how busy everyone is at school!

We cannot thank you enough for your wonderful support to date and hope that you will continue to support us in the months ahead, in particular as we endeavour to secure the fit out of the new building and classrooms and take a big step towards a new phase in the life of the school.

Please note that from 8-12 April, when you give up to US$50 to support our project, GlobalGiving will match your generosity at 50% as part of its Little By Little campaign.

With many thanks and best wishes from all of us.
